Song meaning of 2012 BET Hip Hop Awards - Cypher 5 by BET (Ft. DJ Quik, E-40, Kendrick Lamar, Kurupt, Snoop Dogg, Xzibit & YG)

Oh, look at Xzibit coming in all heavy-hearted and heavy-handed. It seems like he's on a mission to be misunderstood and empty his cannon. But hey, he's addicted to ganja, rolling it up in the wood, and drinking a gallon of Henny for the hood. I guess that's how you show your love for your people, huh? Riding for them, giving them a voice, and never following a leader. Oh, and Xzibit, let's not forget that conversation with God where he spills his soul out. I'm just picturing God on the other end like, "Uh, Xzibit, you're breaking up. I can't understand a word you're saying." And he's got assault weapons that fold out like Megatron? Can't you just see him transforming into a rapper-turned-robot on stage? Now that's an act I'd pay to see. Moving on to YG, who's out here bringing the coast back. But not just any coast, a nasty coast. I never knew coastlines could be nasty, but apparently, YG found a way. And he's comparing his money to knees and Kanye's high? Well, YG, I hope your money doesn't limp like someone with a knee injury. He's whipping his Porsche like it's a horse and saying "ye-ha." Hold on, YG, aren't you supposed to say "yee-haw"? I guess horses aren't the best judges of pronunciation. But hey, YG, watch out for those off-brand rappers who wouldn't sell/sail with a boat. They might try to sell/sail with a dinghy instead, and we all know how that ends. And of course, he's got that pinky promise going on, but still wouldn't trust. Can't argue with that - pinky promises are serious business. Then we have Kurupt, representing the entire coast line on his back. That must be one heavy coast line. I can just imagine him walking around with sand and waves sticking out of his shirt. And he does it every day, every time. Wow, Kurupt, let's not leave any day or any time without representing that coast line properly. I wonder what happens if he misses a day. Does the coast line cease to exist? Kurupt, the coast line savior. And he's got his nine every, every time. Brushing his teeth? Check. Going to the grocery store? Check. Visiting his grandmother? Check. You can't catch Kurupt slipping without his nine. E-40 is here too, reminding us that they don't make 'em like him anymore. Probably a good thing because we wouldn't want a world filled with E-40 clones. He's rapping too fast, but we're just listening too slow. Well E-40, not all of us can keep up with the speed of your lyrics. We're only human, you know? And he's so hot in the hood, he's like the left-sink handle. Is that a new unit of measurement for heat? "Man, it's so hot outside, it's like the left-sink handle hot!" But hey, E-40, don't forget that you were doing the damn thing while we were drinking Similac. That's a feat worth bragging about. And he's macking on minds, telling them that he's a .jpeg and they wanna get attached. Well, E-40, if you're pixelated, I can understand why they want to get attached. It's like collecting vintage artwork. And speaking of artwork, E-40's spitting the four bars before the verse even ends. Now that's some next-level time management. DJ Quik is feeling himself, he's got big plans to make and big dough to get. He's got big tracks to rhyme on, but I didn't know tracks could have aspirations of their own. Maybe one day they'll grow up to be full songs. But wait, he needs a watch that's shiny and has a spine like the piping on the seats behind him? I didn't know watches could have spines. Does that make them vertebrates of the accessory world? And finally, we have Kendrick Lamar, the innocent Kendrick we've seen in the street holding basketballs and Now and Laters. But now he's mashing all of his skeletons. Is that some sort of street word for dancing? Because I'd love to see Kendrick Lamar mashing his skeletons on the dance floor. And he wants to know if we'd believe him if he said he'd be doing this at 16. Well, Kendrick, if "this" means rapping at the BET Hip Hop Awards with a bunch of legendary artists, then yeah, I guess we would believe you. But let's not forget Snoop Dogg, the grand finale of this cypher. He's just out here casually taking the microphone and doing his thug-izzle. Watching this cypher, it's like Snoop is saying, "Hey, I'm just like you guys." Well, Snoop, I hate to break it to you, but not all of us have hair as fabulous as yours. But anyway, Snoop is dropping game like dominoes, but he advises us to get a lawyer because it might be too much for us to handle. Thanks for the concern, Snoop, but don't worry, I'll call my lawyer just in case. And he's moving his hands and doing the next game. Is Snoop reinventing the rules of basketball? First, he was the coach of his son's team, and now he's changing the game itself. And let's not forget his shoutout to Quik, who's doing his damn thing, and Snoop is spitting more flames. Is there a fire extinguisher on set? And lastly, Snoop reminds us that he's the west coast motherfucker who will bust in your face.
